AT&T and BellSouth seek approval for deal
On Friday, March 31, AT&T and BellSouth filed paperwork with Justice Department and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) seeking permission to go ahead with their proposed merger.
The companies cited the fact that if the merger was allowed to go through, the new company would be able to manage Cingular Wireless, currently owned by both AT&T and BellSouth, much more efficiently. The companies hope to complete the proposed merger by March 2007.
